Marching bands, colorful floats, kids with ice cream and cotton candy....Sprinkle with red, white and blue, bursting fireworks in the night sky and the sound of waves on the shore....and you have the Annual Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade and Celebration.
The city’s inaugural parade in 1904 commemorated the arrival of the
first electric passenger train, linking the area with Long Beach and Los
Angeles. Through the years residents and visitors have witnessed some
spectacular sights here in Huntington Beach. As the yearly parade drew more and
more visitors, movie stars and dignitaries began to take notice. President
Franklin Roosevelt served as its most famous grand marshal, followed by
Hollywood movie stars such as Jane Mansfield, Natalie Wood, Zsa Zsa Gabor,
Dorothy Lamour, Mickey Rooney and Shirley Jones. And we can’t forget to mention
out-of-this-world Astronaut Buzz Aldrin.

The 4th of July begins with the early morning Surf City 5K Run and Fitness Expo, followed by a Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast in Lake Park. At 10 a.m. sharp, the Annual Parade steps off near the Pier and marches down its historic Main Street Parade Route.
The 4th of July parade route will require the closure of PCH from Goldenwest St. to Beach Blvd. starting at 5:00 AM on Friday, July 4. The parade will enter onto PCH at 8th Street, going from 8th to Main Street where it will proceed up Main through the downtown and residential areas, ending just past Yorktown. The parade begins at 10:00 AM and lasts approximately two hours.
Call-out will be 7:30 am on July 4th. We will meet in the parking lot of Great Western Sanitary Supplies at 17552 Griffin Lane (see map below). Coffee and donuts will be served, and we will shuttle to the parade staging area.
Staging areas will take place in the downtown area and include portions of Walnut Ave., Olive Ave., Orange Ave., Pecan Ave., 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th Streets.
Through traffic on PCH will be detoured at Goldenwest St. and Beach Blvd. up to Garfield Ave. PCH will be completely open to traffic no later than 2:00 PM.
